Erika Kruger (Black Box)p32
This slide is showing what appear to be shadows cast onto an undulating landscape. They mould and conform themselves to the ground’s subtle corrugations, but the shadows also alter the landscape by creating negative spaces within its boundaries. Despite this the shadows still become a part of the new landscape that is created rather than becoming an idiosyncratic element that doesn’t belong.
This ties in with my own design which aims to create spaces separate but at the same time integral to the landscape in which they are situated, creating a new landscape rather than just destroying the first. In my design however, I cannot simply form my spaces to follow the contours of the land as unlike shadows they are not flat.
